Jobs: Citydash Guard

Citydash is a fast game of speed, stealth, and strategy. Players dash between checkpoints inside a small area of the city, trying to increase their score while keeping out of sight of patrolling guards.

That's where you come in. For a 60-minute game, you'll patrol an area of streets, keeping an eye out for players and texting in their ID numbers if you see them. Your job is to make it fun for players by creating close calls, outwitting them and occasionally letting them outwit you.

We'll encourage you to develop your own character and style. Some guards sprint directly at players, relying on speed. Some never run, but use their knowledge of their city to cut the players off and pop out around unexpected corners. Some joke with the players, some maintain an intimidating silence.

About Fire Hazard

We're one of the UK's leading street games outfits, and we've been running, screaming, evading and escaping since 2008. We create brief, intense escapes to a world that's simple, dramatic, accessible, and energised. We connect people to others, and themselves, by memorable moments and larger-than-life exploits.

Our community welcomes everyone from every background, across gender / age / orientation / disability / appearance / race / religion / anything else. Be excellent to each other.

How it works

This is a casual role. We'll need you for about 3 hours each time.

You can pick whichever games you like - but be aware that we can't guarantee any particular amount of work, since it depends on the number of games we end up running and how many people want to crew them!

It's a paid gig, with rates varying by city. Right now London is £30-40 per game.

(For charity fundraising games and our free community games, we run without crew or with volunteers only).

Who we're looking for

Most important is that you have a creative, fun, and playful personality, and genuinely enjoy chasing people around and making 'movie moments' for them. Making sure that our games are fun for everyone (players, non-players and crew) is the most important thing we do.

We also need to know that you're organised and reliable - this might be great fun, but we run a tight ship.

A reasonable level of physical fitness is a bonus, but not essential.

We'd be particularly interested in hearing from people who have a background in street games or improvised or immersive theatre.

If you have an interest in designing and building street games, this might be the perfect way to take it further. Fire Hazard has a deep history and some very experienced designers, and we involve all of our crew in tweaking the game design.

Can you rock a crowd?

For each game we also have one MC - similar role to the Guards, but you're also responsible for giving the Briefing and Debriefing to 50-100 players. You need a big voice and a big personality for this, as well as a willingness to learn your lines!

What happens next

Just drop Amy a line. She'll organise a free ticket for you to come and play Citydash (if you haven't already) and meet the crew, and then you can sign up as a guard for games as we list them.
